HYSTERECTOMY SURGERY
Hysterectomy surgery
Hysterectomy is the surgical procedure that removes the uterus and, in some cases, the Fallopian tubes and ovaries.
Types of hysterectomy surgery
There are three types:
- A total hysterectomy: It removes the uterus and cervix.
- A partial hysterectomy: It removes just the uterus, and the cervix is left intact.
- A radical hysterectomy: It removes the uterus, the cervix from the upper part of the vagina and also tissues around these organs. This procedure is the most used in cases where cancer is in an advance stage.
When is it performed?
It is normally indicated in women with severe problems in the pelvic area as infections, advanced cervical cancer, ovarian cancer, uterine fibroids, frequent hemorrhages, severe endometriosis or uterine prolapse.
